Srilatha, along with her family of 4, have a small plot of land in which they grow groundnuts. They do not use any form of fertilizers and each member of the family is invested in the farm.They sell 3/4th of their groundnut for conversion to oil. The balance is sold as the raw nut, which can be consumed directly or roasted.

RANI MAHESH

 

Rani owns a 2 hectare coffee farm that grows Robusta variety coffee trees. She and her family are actively involved in the coffee berry plucking, harvesting, drying and milling. She is actively involved in spearheading the sustainability of her coffee farm and the coffee powder her family produces is of high quality.

RAMESH K.

Ramesh has been a farmer ever since he was 12 years. His has 2 other junior farmers working on his paddy field and produces paddy to supply to the local town ration store. His farming techniques include using drip irrigation and organic fertilizers. The weeding on the field is done manually and uses integrated pest management as opposed to herbicides.

RAMESH K.

Ramesh is a black pepper farmer and grows this cash crop in his farm, along with coffee. He has grown silver oak trees in his farm for the pepper vines to grow around and has been previously trained in water stewardship, maintaining soil fertility and integrated pest management. His wife dries the pepper seeds and then crushes them to make the powder.

BABU S.

Babu is a tomato farmer and has a small plot of land to grow tomatoes. He usually grows to sell it for supply in the nearing towns however due to the perishable nature of tomatoes, he and his family now keep aside some of the crop to produce sun-dried tomatoes to be sold in the city. Some of the stock he has kept aside to be sold through Karnataka Konsume.

LAXMI AMMA

Laxmi and her family have a paddy field through which they mainly grow the crop to sell to middle men. During growing season, Laxmi ensures to use limited water as opposed to flooding her fields. She also uses limited amounts of organic fertilizers. Her family is invested in the farm and help her out on the field.
